The Zimbabwe Media Commission are set to host the inaugural Media Golf Day on Friday at the ZRP Golf Club in Harare.
ZMC executive secretary Godwin Phiri said the tournament will be held under the theme “Professional Media for Peaceful Elections”.
“This theme underlines the constant message from the commission that the upcoming harmonised elections are an opportunity for Zimbabweans to exercise their constitutional duty and responsibility to choose their leaders in a dignified and peaceful manner.
“The golf day offers the media industry and its various stakeholders an opportunity to build a rapport, and collegiality even as people make different choices.
“It is part of our contribution to a peaceful environment during these elections. It emphasises that there is so much more that brings us together than divides us.
“As the players tee off, they have a chance to share their Zimbabwean stories and find each other. This is just part of a broader programme where the ZMC has interacted with different stakeholders in promoting a media environment that emphasises professionalism and respect for the media industry,” he said.
Phiri added the tournament will be an annual event on their calendar. The event also provides an opportunity and a platform for media stakeholders to interact with captains of industry and commerce, as well as other entities.
“This golf day becomes an annual event, offering an opportunity for the media and industry to find synergies in a relaxing environment that the sport of golf provides standards of impartiality, credibility, and integrity. We, therefore, call upon all media players to be part of this initiative.”
“We do hope and believe that there will be a lot of exchange of ideas and synergies built from this interaction. It is the commission’s fervent hope that this golf day becomes an annual event, offering an opportunity for the media and industry to find synergies in a relaxing environment that the sport of golf provides,” he said.
