CRANBORNE Bullets were presented with their Northern Region title yesterday, amid revelations that their participation in the 2020 Castel Lager Premier Soccer League is guranteed.

The Zimbabwe National Army side won the championship with three games to spare but their coronation was done yesterday at 2 Brigade after their last home game.

Crucially for coach Nesbert Saruchera and his men who put up a polished show and deserved to win, the ZNA assured the club of their backing as they enter the elite league.

“We can guarantee that we will be competing in the Premier League and we are very happy with what the team has done,” said club patron Mpulaeng Siziba during the trophy presentation.

“In terms of funding, we have our own internal means as well as sponsors, our funding is guaranteed. This makes it possible for us to compete in the Premier League.

“On the field of play, the team has proved that it has the capacity to compete against the best team in the country. Winning the title with three games to play rarely happens in the Northern Region, which is a good sign for us,” said Siziba.

Club deputy patron Godfrey Mutsadyanga also graced the occasion.

Coach Saruchera spoke of his Premiership experience and assured supporters that his team has the pedigree to withstand the top-flight’s heat.

“I have been in the Premier League before as a coach. I know the level of competition to expect, it is not easy but we are ready for it.

“These boys exceeded expectations in Division One. The difference on the level of competition between the Northern Region and the Premier League is not that big so we are ready,” said Saruchera.

The region’s chairman Martin Kweza paid tribute to the corporates that have stood by them. He said he is confident Cranborne will have the staying power.

“I want to thank the sponsors who have been part of us. Their support makes this league what it is. Congratulations to Cranborne. As a region, we wish them all the best in the PSL,” said Kweza.

There was fanfare at the match venue, with the military band also on hand to churn out befitting melodies.
