This was confirmed by ZNA director of public relations Alphios Makotore on Thursday.
“Our new partners, Bakers Inn, will organise the inaugural golf tournament where we hope they will rope in their suppliers and clients as well as look for donations,” said Makotore.
Makotore said the format during the tournament will only be known after the official launch of the fundraising drive at a Harare hotel next Friday where they will rope in golf experts.
“What will happen though is that each team will pay $100 to enter the competition but how the competition will run will be determined by the golf experts at the official launch next Friday,” he said.
The ZNA has five charities which include Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre in Nyanga which is for the rehabilitation of injured members of the uniformed forces.
It also has the ZNA Benevolence Fund for the welfare of troops on internal, external and international operations.
The ZNA Schools Welfare Trust, whose chairman of the board of trustees is Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, has a total of five secondary and 12 primary schools.
“We have schools in military cantonment which do not only enrol soldiers’ children but even children from the surrounding communities as well. These schools need basics like text books and furniture,” said Makotore.
Makotore also said all their army camps have hospitals and that the ZNA Pensions Welfare Fund was set up for the upkeep of these institutions.
The last ZNA charity is the Widows and Orphans which takes care of widows of the soldiers before they receive terminal benefits.
Makotore said this year’s fundraising target was set at $500 000, the same figure as last year.
In 2010, Tsanga Lodge received $25 268,32, ZNA Benevolent Fund received $5 670, ZNA Patients’ Welfare Fund got $7 221, ZNA Schools had $27 750 while ZNA Widows and Orphans’ Fund was given $18 455,24.
