ZNA Charity Shield launched

United will contest the match, to be held on March 3 at Rufaro.
A curtain raiser match pitting soccer legends and army personnel will also be held on the same day with entertainment being provided by Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah.

Speaking at the official launch, ZNA commander, lieutenant general Philip Sibanda, said they were taking a different approach to raise funds for the vulnerable this year.

“Those who have attended our past activities are aware that our activities would usually start around May with a charity ball but we decided to fill up the time between now and May with something new and after some brainstorming we decided to launch this charity shield,” he said.
Sibanda hailed the corporate sector for supporting the cause.

He said other charity events to follow included the charity ball, the charity golf tournament and the charity horse race.

Announcing a US$10 000 sponsorship package, Zimbabwe National Road Administration corporate communications manager, Augustine Moyo, assured the ZNA of continued support.

“It has always been and always will be a part of ZINARA to support such a noble cause,” he said.
Also announcing its sponsorship package, Ke Nako media chairman Peter Gwaza said the company would provide soccer kits for the two teams, trophy and medals for participants.

Other sponsors include the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation which did not disclose the amount it was pouring in to support the charity soccer match.

The ZNA holds a number of fund raising events with proceeds being channelled towards five army charities namely Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre in Nyanga, Army Widows and Orphans Benevolent Fund, ZNA Benevolent Fund, ZNA Schools Welfare Trust Fund and the ZNA Patients’ Welfare. — New Ziana
