Harare Bureau
The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has promoted 31 officers to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from the ranks of Major.
The newly promoted Lieutenant Colonels were urged to continue being patriotic and loyal as they guard the nation’s sovereignty and discharge their duties in the new political dispensation.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony in Harare on Friday, Zimbabwe Presidential Guard commander Brigadier-General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe advised the Lieutenant Colonels to efficiently manage the material and manpower resources that will be under their command.
“Your promotions come with greater and increased responsibilities. The organisation expects your performance to be commensurate with your new status as Lieutenant Colonels,” he said.
“Your demanding functions will encompass efficient management of manpower and material resources under your command and control.
“The organisation demands you to be loyal, patriotic and disciplined in order to jealously guard the territorial integrity, sovereignty and our hard won Independence, especially with the current obtaining economic and political situation.
“The current new economic and political dispensation, which was ushered through Operation Restore Legacy, requires continuous guidance so as to diligently discharge our duties as the organisation and keep ourselves apprised with the situation as it unfolds.”
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, Lt Col Takawira Maura promised to live up to the ZNA’s expectations.
“General Sir, we are aware that this new status brings with it increased responsibilities. It is also a sign that the organisation has trust and confidence in us,” he said.
