ZNA sharpens shooting skills

Addressing participants at the ZNA Commander’s shooting competition at Cleveland Riffle Range on Friday, ZNA Commander Lieutenant-General Phillip Valerio Sibanda said team shooting skills enhanced soldiers’ physical and mental stamina.

“Enduring the rigorous competition provides realistic practices similar to the battle situations or environment likely to be encountered on the battle-field,” said Lt Gen Sibanda.
“I want to reiterate my position that all uniformed firers who have participated three consecutive times at the chief of staff all-comers and twice at the Commander ZNA skill at arms competitions should give way to new contestants.

“The shooting competition continues to draw more contestants from all uniformed forces and civilian clubs and I am very pleased by your continued participation and the ever-increasing attendance.”

The interaction, Lt Gen Sibanda said, would definitely enhance the spirit of sportsmanship as well as improving musketry in the security services while at the same time bringing our security services closer to the Zimbabwean society in general.

He challenged all Rifle Clubs to continuously field new firers on future competitions to meet this objective. Lt Gen Sibanda bemoaned the effects of the illegal sanctions which were imposed on the country by the British, the Americans and their allies.

“It is in this regard that I challenge you all to ensure that the determination to succeed, which we and indeed all Zimbabweans have shown, is reinforced so that we put to shame those wishing to destabilise our country,” he said.

The ZNA commander’s shooting competition is a preparatory exercise to the Presidential shooting competition, which will be presided over by the Commander-in-Chief of the ZDF, President Robert Mugabe, next month.
Private Shebon Sibanda emerged the Champion at Arms while 3 Brigade Headquarters of Mutare emerged the overall best army unit.
