The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) will continue training its workforce to meet the requirements of contemporary threats to the country and to aid communities in times of disasters as part of its constitutional mandate, a senior officer said last week.
Officiating during a handover and takeover at Parachute Regiment command at Inkomo last week, ZNA Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier General Steven Gwekwerere, who was the chief witness, said the ZNA was known for its effectiveness.
“The ZNA is well known and admired throughout the region for its quality and effectiveness of a well-trained force,” he said.
“It is thus not by accident that other countries in the region are currently striving, albeit without success, to emulate the way ZNA has consistently produced confident and efficient officers and soldiers who are successful in operations.
“It is in this vein that the organisation will keep training you to meet threats of the day. The ZNA was the first to deploy after Cyclone Idai hit Chimanimani and managed to successfully contain the situation.
“The organisation gave a good account of itself and the people of Chimanimani will forever be grateful.
“As part of our constitutional mandate, we will continue to aid these civil ministries and communities in their times of need.”
