The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) will continue to invest in training programmes for its personnel to enable them to effectively counter modern threats, a senior officer said yesterday.
Officiating during a handover and takeover of command at mounted regiment in Inkomo Barracks yesterday, ZNA Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier-General Steven Gwekwerere, who was the chief witness, said personnel were being trained to counter contemporary threats.
“As the military our peace time function is to be the nexus between national security and economic development and this can only be achieved through unit training and subscribing officers and men for training in line with the overall ZNA career development policy,”
“The ZNA has done its best to realign its training programmes in line with the contemporary national security challenges and endeavours to unlock more opportunities for equitation training,”
Brig-Gen Gwekwerere said ZNA will participate at the Russian military games.
“ZNA’s participation at this year’s Russian Military games will certainly add value and unlock more opportunities for equitation training. The games are an important training programme and forum for discussions on contemporary challenges facing the globe, and these challenges call for the integration of ideas in key sectors, especially in addressing security challenges,” he said.
He urged troops to remain vigilant and adaptive to the complexity of modern internal security operations.
Lieutenant Colonel Dierich Chikwature was taking command of the unit from Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Mugwagwa.
Handing over command, Lt Col Mugwagwa extended his greatest appreciation for the ZNA command element in according him an opportunity to lead the regiment.
