where the International Olympic Committee, through the Olympic Solidarity, explained the programmes on offer as National Olympic Committees shift their focus from the London Games to Rio 2016.

Mguni said they received information and clarity on programmes that are on offer. The main mission of the Olympic Solidarity is to assist National Olympic Committees in need.

“After London 2012, the International Olympic Committee through its organ Olympic Solidarity took the opportunity to explain the programmes and funding available to all 204 National Olympic Committees through regional forums hosted for clusters on each continent. Zimbabwe participated in the regional forum hosted in Namibia from 4 to 5 June, along with 11 other English-speaking countries from Africa.

“ZOC received information and clarity on the programmes on offer,” said Mguni.

The Olympic Solidarity programmes on offer for 2013-2016 include athletes programmes, coaches programmes, NOC management programmes, promotion of Olympic values, Olympic Games subsidies and complimentary programmes.

Financial resources for the Olympic Movement are principally realised from TV rights sold to broadcast the Games.

This multi-million dollar industry has seen funding channelled to National Olympic Committees from Olympic Solidarity grow since its inception from US$32 million in 1985 to the projected budget of US$438 million for 204 NOCs for the period 2013 – 2016.
