Unlike other previous collaborative gigs that have been held in Chitungwiza, this one will be unique because it will offer a medley of music, sungura, contemporary, zora and Mutodi’s unique rhumba beat.
The four are expected to give their best to meet the musical needs of the cosmopolitan crowd.
Show promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions said he came up with the selection following requests from music fans who wanted to know how the four would fare, playing at the same gig.
“Fans, however, need to know that the Chitungwiza Music Fiesta should not be viewed as a competition to establish who is the best among the lot, but will be event,
where the artistes are expected to complement each other and entertain their fans,” he said.
While Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex is Macheso’s home ground, the gig will also prove to be a litmus test on the musician, who will have to take his performance a gear up, to maintain his position as the “king of sungura”.
On the other hand, the likes of Mutodi and Jah Prayzah will also need to prove their mettle and further endear themselves to fans, who have been warming up to their brands as well as their performances.
But, of course, fans will be in for a surprise when Zhakata goes on stage.
Zhakata, who hogged the limelight in 1994 with his hit, “Mugove” (off the album “Maruva Enyika”) has over the years built a solid profile that has made him a force to reckon with in the music industry.
A shy but decisive musician, Zhakata has got a number of hits to his name including the timeless “Hupenyu Mutoro”, “Batai Mazwi”, “Nzombe Huru”, and “Gomba
Remarara”.
However, it was “Mugove”, which propelled him to dizzy heights.
He went underground for some time and resurfaced with his latest album, “Gotwe-Last Born”.
