ZPC Hwange earn PSL promotion

ZPC Hwange have sealed their spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) with an unassailable 14-point lead in the Southern Region Division One league, which has four rounds of play remaining.

The power generators’ 3-0 victory over Indlovu Iyanyathela in Week 26 cemented their top position.

Veteran, Gerald Ndlovu scored a brace while Dingani Maphosa weighed in with the third one.

Casmyn have secured second place with also an unassailable 53 points, while Nkayi United trails with 45 points.

Mainline, Zimbabwe Saints, and Adachi are fighting for a third place finish and they are all tied on 40 points.

Zifa Southern Region spokesperson, Blessing Mbwanda praised ZPC Hwange and congratulated the team for their tireless efforts that will see them join the local elite football league next year.

“Its congratulations to ZPC Hwange. They have done extremely well this season. They deserved promotion after a long-term project. Previously runners-up for three consecutive seasons, they worked hard for this achievement. We wish them all the best in the local premiership,” said Mbwanda.

ZPC Hwange’s promotion is a testament to their perseverance after narrowly missing out the top gong in the past seasons.

ZPC Kariba’s formidable squad was largely spearheaded by prolific forward Justin Kaunda.

Kaunda’s 14 goals this season have been instrumental in the team’s success, and he was ably supported by Courage Sibanda an industrious and tireless midfielder.

Sibanda has also been chipping in with goals and his goal-scoring tally now stands at nine.

However, the team’s backbone was in its solid defence, anchored by goalkeeper Harmony Nare.

Seasoned Ndlovu and Dennis Ndhlovu, recently returned from injury, to form a robust partnership at the back an complemented by right back Tafadzwa Pambariza’s impressive performances.
