SEASONED Zifa Southern Region Division One pacesetters ZPC Hwange posted their eighth straight win of the season when they edged Plumtree-based Mainline 1-0 in the coal mining town on Saturday.
ZPC Hwange, who were last season’s first runners-up after playing second fiddle to eventual winners Arenel Movers, are now on 24 points, eight ahead of second-placed Mainline.
Leading marksman Justin Kaunda scored the solitary goal.
“It is always good to maintain fine form. We are taking each game as it comes. I’m happy that the boys have been doing well.
We need to remain focused,” said Mebelo Njekwa, a former Hwange and ZPC Kariba coach. The league’s new boys Zebra Revolution posted a 5-0 emphatic win over Bosso90 to take their points tally to 13, two behind third-placed Zimbabwe Saints.
The Mkhokheli Dube-mentored Zebra Revolution were the biggest scorers of the weekend.
“It’s still work in progress for us, we will always strive to improve with each passing game. We were coming from two consecutive defeats and it was not going to be good for us to be handed a third one,” said Dube, a former Highlanders, Bulawayo City and FC Platinum player.
Chauya Chikwata played a nil all-home draw against Jordan Sinnot.
Adachi FC beat Bulawayo City 1-0 while Nkayi United got the better of Victoria Falls City on a 2-1 scoreline. Mosi Rovers fell 1-0 at the hands of Casymn.
Ajax Hotspurs’ woes continued after they were edged 1-0 by DRC United. Last season’s second runners-up Talen Vision beat army side Indlovu Iyanyathela 1-0. It was a weekend that produced a total of 13 goals, 11 home and two away. Casmyn are the only club that managed to produce an away win.
