ZPC Kariba defence stalwart and skipper Boid Mutukure is hopeful that the electricity men will maintain their good form when they face the test of 2023 champions Ngezi Platinum Stars, whom they visit for a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Baobab on Saturday.
The defence has been the rock on which ZPC Kariba’s Premiership survival has been built.
In fact, last year, ZPC Kariba had the best defence in the PSL, and Mutukure was a key figure in that rearguard.
This year, Katuruturu, as ZPC Kariba are affectionately called in the resort town, have got off to a promising start, winning three and drawing five of their opening 10 games to sit seventh on the log with 14 points.
Their goalkeeper, Tatenda Munditi, has only been breached three times, underlining the strength of the defence sitting in front of him, which is marshalled by Mutukure.
The former Karoi United defender even has a goal to his name, having scored when ZPC Kariba beat Triangle at Gibbo last Wednesday.
Mutukure, whose impressive performances last season made him a key figure in ZPC Kariba’s solid defence where he partnered with Nyasha Gurede.
Gurude has, however, since crossed the floor to Ngezi, where he has also been one of the stars of the platinum miners’ outfit.
Despite some interest from several clubs, Mutukure decided to stay on at ZPC Kariba, where he has a new partner in the heart of the remained and is doing well with his new defence partner Marshall Gavaza.

It is looking promising for ZPC Kariba, who have transformed under the guidance of seasoned but underrated coach Newton Chitehwe.
But in Ngezi, they will surely get a real opportunity to gauge their progress, as the former champions have been a solid side under Warriors assistant coach Takesure Chiragwi.
Although Ngezi have lost twice, they are a difficult proposition for any side that visits Baobab.
