FORMER Tenax FC coach, Blessing Madombi guided the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Select soccer team to victory and brought home gold in the just-ended SADC Prison and Correctional Service Games held in Botswana.
A number of teams took part in this years’ edition namely Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, Angola, Lesotho, Swaziland and the host, Botswana.
Zimbabwe was in Pool A together with Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho and Zambia.
The Zimbabwe team was made up of players from Ntabazinduna, Flame Lily and Tenax contributing the highest number of players.
Zimbabwe side put up a superb performance and managed to defend their title since they were the defending champions after winning it in 2006 in South Africa.
Zimbabwe met Swaziland in the finals and managed to beat them one-nil courtesy of Tenax’s Fadzanai Vinti’s penalty in extra time.
“We fought very hard because were we reduced to 10 men in the second half. I was impressed by the team’s overall performance,” he said.
