POLICE last week engaged company executives and businesspeople in Harare to develop strategies to fight serious crimes such as armed robbery and fraud.
This comes after robbers and fraudsters have been targeting businesspeople, especially those who deal in large amounts of cash.
Police, through the national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, addressed the company executives, security executives and the media.
Comm Nyathi said, “This workshop was organised by Peace Security Company, and we discussed various strategies on enhancing the fight against crime in the country and promoting effective collaboration by private security companies and the ZRP in curbing armed robbery, fraud, theft and other criminal acts.”
Meanwhile, the ZRP Crime and Traffic awareness team also conducted an engagement with the community at Makepesi Business Centre, Lower Gweru in Midlands Province in the on-going fight against murder, rape, domestic violence, stock theft and robbery cases.
The police also engaged schoolchildren and teachers at Adventist High School to intensify the country’s effort to curb drug and substance abuse in the society
This development comes after the police has also intensified training and capacitation of officers aimed at improving service delivery to members of the public.
Recently, senior police officers with the rank of chief superintendent were attending a training workshop in Harare as the police service continues to intensify training and capacitation to improve service delivery.
The senior officers are normally officers commanding districts and head various departments and sections within the police service.
They were addressed by Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, who urged them to remain professional when discharging their duties.
“As the training and capacitation of ZRP members continues, the Commissioner-General of Police addressed a contingent of Chief Superintendents at ZRP Sport Club, Mkushi Academy,” Comm Nyathi said.
Early last month more than 38 police instructors also graduated at Shamva Battle Camp.
The police instructors graduated during a pass-out parade, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner-General (Human Resources) Mind Elliot Ngirandi.
