ZRP embarks on recruitment exercise

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police Service has embarked on a recruitment exercise to boost its human resources, as it continues to undergo major transformation in adopting a new structure and re-branding to win back public confidence.

Members of the public have since been warned to be wary of fraudsters who might want to take advantage of the recruitment by promising people employment in return for a fee or bribe.

The ZRP said applicants should be aged between 18 to 22, have a minimum of five O-Levels, including Mathematics, English and a science subject attained in not more than two sittings, and should be physically fit. Men must be at least 1,68m tall and weigh no less than 59kg and women should be at least 1,62m and weigh in proportion to their height.

Applicants should also be prepared to complete a 5km road run in 20 minutes for men and 25 minutes for women.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police were recruiting suitably qualified candidates who are Zimbabwean citizens and physically fit as general duty constables. 

They would train for a diploma in police studies for two years at Mkushi Police Training Academy (formerly Morris Depot), an affiliate of the University of Zimbabwe. 

Applicants should submit their hand written application letters with contact numbers and a life history of between 450 to 500 words, copy of their Identity document and copies of educational qualifications in person to the officer-in-charge of the nearest police station to where they stay on or before Monday, July 8. 

Only shortlisted candidates would be advised of the dates and venues of the interviews. Comm Nyathi said in addition to a good remuneration, the ZRP offered free uniforms, free medical and dental care, housing and transport allowances, generous leave conditions, and the opportunity of development for personal academic or professional qualifications.

“Members of the public are warned against fake advertisements from social media platforms as well as individuals purporting to be members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police who may dupe them of their hard earned cash under the pretext that they will be recruited into the police.
