Intra-party political contests will provide a unique challenge to the ZRP and officers must prepare for this, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri was debriefing 12 officers who returned from a United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
“Allow me to say to the returning officers collectively that you are coming home when the country is enjoying unparalleled peace.
“One thing is, you know this year is a bit challenging because politicians by the year end, in the ruling party, will be eyeing positions, so you know what it is.

“There will be too much talking — yap, yap yap and so on. When people are looking for positions, you know what I am saying. The opposition’s house is also reeling under confusion but we will remain professional and steadfast,” he said.

Comm-Gen Chihuri said focus should be on national development.
He said the Zimbabwe Republic Police would continue to roll out a matrix of initiatives that would address “pockets of malcontents” within the force.
“The fight against corruption is an epic one. The organisation will not relent.

“Those who want to dare the system need to be told that they are taking a ride on a hollow wooden Trojan horse,” he said.
