THE Police Commissioner-General’s Funfair held on Saturday is growing each year judging by the number of people who turned up for this year’s edition.
The event lived to its billing as a family day fête, as parents came with their children for a day of fun, where they were treated to fun-filled events.
A coterie of musicians, among them Peter Moyo, Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Roki, Sniper, Nicholas Zakaria, Jusa Mpostori and Baba naAmai Charamba gave fans value of their money as they took turns to entertain the crowd.
The Police Band, which was the first to entertain revellers, proved to all and sundry that they can push boundaries and play any type of genre, if not better than the original sound.
Sungura maestro Alick Macheso proved why he has stayed on top for such long with his fast-paced beat, which left many in the crowd sweating after nearly everyone danced to the sungura beat on a hot afternoon.
Macheso displayed his prowess on the strings as he used his head to strum the guitar much to the delight of the crowd. On other hand, Peter Moyo did not disappoint either as he put up a spirited performance.
Dressed in an elegant attire, The Utakataka Express frontman dazzled fans with a trademark smile that reminded many of his late father, but it was the transition from one song to another that people really enjoyed most. He belted out songs from his album “Mushonga Mukuru” and fans could not have enough of the song “Mira Newako”.
As has become the norm, Jah Prayzah was at his usual best showing well choreographed military drills.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri was overwhelmed by the huge turnout.
“We are very excited about the huge crowds that have graced this year’s edition,” he said.
