The bilateral meeting in Harare, aimed at strengthening cooperation in combating cross-border crimes between the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and their South African counterparts, has concluded with several resolutions made in the fight against crime.
The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, SAPS National Commissioner Lieutenant General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola, Deputy Commissioner-General Learn Ncube, and senior police officers from both countries.
In an interview, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police-South African Police Services (SAPS) bilateral meeting has concluded in Harare, with several resolutions in the fight against crime being made.
“The delegations from the two countries were led by their respective police chiefs – Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba and General Fannie Masemola – during the highly fruitful two-day engagement.
“The SAPS delegation also paid a courtesy call on Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe at his Mukwati Building offices,” he said.
Over the past few years, Zimbabwean and South African security authorities have been implementing a joint operation along the two countries’ borders to address smuggling, illegal migration, and other crimes.
