THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union leadership have put down the resignations in the technical teams over the past two weeks to people who do not want to justify why they are not delivering.
ZRU president Nyararai Sibanda believes the mass departure of technical staff was because the individuals were not keen on addressing failure.
Sibanda addressed journalists together with one of his two vice presidents, Tapiwa Mangezi, on Sunday.
Cyprian Mandenge stepped down in August as Sables head coach together with the team manager Sebastian Garikai.
The two were followed last week by union’s director of rugby Brighton Chivandire. Mandenge only won two of his nine matches as Sables coach.
Before he threw in the towel, he had gone for seven matches, in a row, without a win. That pathetic form saw the country’s senior national team being demoted from the elite Africa Cup 1A.
“We find ourselves with an exodus, obviously that is going to happen, because this exodus is created by the discomfort of accountability,” he said.
“You must note that the decision is not informed by anything, but results.”
Mangezi, the ZRU vice-president in charge of national teams, revealed that when they came into office on 5 May this year, they took over a union that had terrible traditions where people were earning salaries, but not answerable for failure to deliver.
He disclosed that seven applications have been received with four of them sent by individuals outside the country.
Mangezi said the interest from outside Zimbabwe’s borders came from coaches in South Africa’s Western Province, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng as well as from New Zealand.
Meanwhile, the ZRU yesterday announced that they accepted Chivandire’s resignation.
“The ZRU wishes to advise that we have accepted the resignation of Bright Chivandire, director of rugby. Bright has made an enormous contribution to the game over many years and more particularly over the last 22 months as director of rugby,” the ZRU said in a statement.
