The tourism fair gives exhibitors the chance to explore the country’s tourism industry and focuses on the innovative marketing.
The trade showcase is organised by the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Company in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA).
“We intend to review A’Sambeni fair to establish how best we can grow the tourism event. We intend to get it registered with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation so that its profile is raised as well as getting international recognition on the UNWTO calendar,” said the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head of public relations and corporate communications, Mr Sugar Chagonda, in an interview.
He said if registered A’Sambeni would become an international tourism event.
“As ZTA it is our desire to see the fair scaling to greater heights as a result we are still looking at the plan to have the fair registered with the world tourism body,” he said.
In the past few years, Southern Africa’s tourism facilities have experienced phenomenal growth.
Through A’Sambeni, countries in the region get information on their inter-country routing possibilities for a huge variety of travel customers.
The tourism industry is one of the key sectors envisaged to promote economic growth and development in Zimbabwe.
Due to the strategic importance placed on the tourism sector, Government through the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has taken a leading role in marketing the country as a destination.
To consolidate the sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product, ZTA has said its working on reviewing domestic tourism marketing strategy.
The review of the tourism marketing strategy would see ZTA working closely with players in the sector to address the challenges in domestic tourism.
