THE Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has brought in five travel writers from the United Kingdom as it intensifies efforts to promote the local tourism sector.Recently, ZTA struck a deal with South Africa Airways (SAA), which will see the airline facilitating travel arrangements for tour operators and journalists to promote the tourism sector.
Speaking after the arrival of the journalists from the UK, ZTA representative in the UK, Kuda Felicia Munjaidi, said the travel writers had been to Harare, Great Zimbabwe, Matopos, Hwange National Park and finally Victoria Falls.
“As we continue to engage the world, we have brought travel writers from UK. They have been in the country and visited major tourism attractions that include Matopos, Great Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls,” she said.
Munjaidi said ZTA was working with its partner, SAA in promoting the country’s image abroad.
“We hope the visit and their articles will help instill confidence in other people considering visiting Zimbabwe,” she said.
ZTA indicated that visitor numbers increased by 17 percent to 400,000 in the first quarter of 2013 compared to 2012.
Nearly half came from South Africa.
