Last week I was going through The Herald and I noted some shops are already in festive mood. I remember some years back companies that performed well during the year would host year-end parties and exchange gifts . I am not sure if this is going to happen this year. So much for the festivities. And on the small screen there is a great many programmes that are being aired as part of the festive season.
The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists hosted its annual Njama Awards in Harare. The awards need a different approach to restore credibility. Having won these awards during my formative years I feel that ZUJ needs to open up to suggestions.
This is why it wasn’t surprising the awards caused quite a debate in media circles last week and I don’t wish to go into it lest I get caught up in the storm.
But away from the Njamas audiences across Africa watched the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalism Awards 2013 on Saturday. The awards, that were recently hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, will premiere in an exciting one-hour show on AfricaMagic World, DStv channel 155.

One reader, Lloyd Vilengalenga, a bishop with Trust in God Apostolic Church, enjoyed last week’s instalment and here is what he had to say:
“Please allow me to add my voice to your last week’s article. To be honest, I was so much impressed to see that Baba Guti is still strong as before. I was humbled to hear him on television calling pastors from other churches to come forward and deliver the people of God. It was a great lesson to us the younger generation to learn to acknowledge others doing the work of God.
“To Baba Guti I say Baba, I learnt a good lesson from your birthday television footage that all those doing the work of God even though they are not members of our denomination have not lost their inheritance (Mk 9vs 38-39) plus that ‘prosperity inouya zvishoma nezvishoma’. To you Jonathan I say, thanks, keep on following these inspiring Christian events and give us updates.”
