Johannesburg — President Jacob Zuma was in a Durban hospital at the time he was scheduled to speak in Cape Town at the weekend, the Sunday Independent reported.
“It was a scheduled visit,” presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj told the newspaper about Zuma’s treatment at Durban’s Life Entabeni Hospital on Saturday.

“Each year around this period, he goes for a check-up,” said Maharaj.
Military health personnel were seen waiting at the hospital with Zuma’s entourage, sister publication the Sunday Tribune reported.
On Saturday, Zuma had been scheduled to address thousands gathered at the launch of the ANC’s Western Cape Manifesto in Delft in Cape Town.

The party’s deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte took over as keynote speaker, telling the crowd that the president had other commitments.

Maharaj told the Sunday Independent that Zuma had been given a clean bill of health after his hospital visit.
“He is continuing with all his activities.” — Sapa
