On Unity Day, Bulawayo residents are in for a festive season with a twist as the “Christmas Fitness Boot Camp” takes centre stage at Queens Sports Club.
Organised by fitness instructor Coach Kim (Hloniphani Kimberly Ngwenya), the event will offer men and women a unique blend of fun workouts and games, providing a distinct and lively alternative to traditional aerobics.
Unity Day, commemorating the importance of safeguarding independence through unity of purpose, sets the backdrop for this intensive and rigorous fitness course.
As Christmas-hat-wearing fitness enthusiasts gather in the early morning hours, the boot camp aims to benefit both physical and mental well-being.
Coach Kim expressed her excitement about bringing a fresh perspective to fitness events.
“It’s a boot camp with fun workouts and games because people are now used to aerobics every time there’s a fitness event. We will have activities like tyre circuit, a workout competition with apparatus like cones, sacks, ropes, ladders, and more,” she explained.
The event is not limited to local trainers, as special guest Zorro, a renowned Zumba instructor from Harare will add a taste of Zumba to the festivities.
Highlighting the importance of fitness, Coach Kim emphasised its role in women’s well-being.
“It’s very important for women to stay fit as there are benefits that will help us live longer and lead happy lives. We have hormones which affect our mental health and weight, so it’s through exercising that we can manage our weight and emotions.”
Hosting the event on Unity Day is a deliberate move to foster unity and community bonding.
While the “Christmas Fitness Boot Camp” marks Coach Kim’s inaugural event of this kind, she envisions organising such gatherings three to four times a year. Additionally, she aspires to promote healthy living habits through the opening of a healthy snack/candy shop soon.
