A ZUPCO clerk appeared in court yesterday in a case in which his ex-wife was demanding US$150 for the upkeep of their six-year-old child.
Ruth Mupfeki told the court that her ex-husband, Cuthbert Zongo, should contribute to the welfare of their child.
“The child pays US$120 school fees and I proposed he pays US$65,” said Mupfeki.
“I stay at Ushewokunze and there are no government schools there.
“If I send the child to a government school, I will end up facing challenges with transport.
“I also need money for rent, food and clothes,” said Mupfeki.
Zongo offered $30 000 and to pay school fees.
“I was suspended from work so l cannot afford the money she is demanding.
‘‘I have another child and my current wife is also expecting. I also plead for access to the child,” said Zongo.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Zongo to pay $50 000 plus fees and clear all arrears at the child’s school before May 30.
