Zupco to get 55 buses

so far acquired over the past two years. The buses come in batches.

Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo was recently in China and had an opportunity to view the 55 buses before their transportation by sea to Beira. He was in China to attend the China-Africa Local Government Forum in Beijing. According to a report on his trip Minister Chombo and his delegation visited Dalian City, the headquarters of FAW.

“The delegation had the opportunity to tour the bus production plant for FAW and saw the 55 buses at the port ready to be dispatched to Zimbabwe,” reads part of the report.

Minister Chombo discussed with the Chinese firm possibilities of manufacturing and selling fire tenders to Zimbabwe’s local authorities. The Minister and his entourage that included Victoria Falls Mayor Clr Nkosilathi Jiyane, Mutare Mayor Clr George Jerison, Mashonaland West provincial administrator Christopher Shumba and T. Kaziboni, a Zupco board member, also met officials from Henan province.

The meeting also deliberated over issues of low cost housing targeting civil servants. The Chinese company Henan Guoji has built low-cost houses in Mozambique, Zambia and Sierra Leone.
