ZVA ready for Zone six games

THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) has announced a 10-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) that will oversee the running of the Confederation African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Nations Championship to be hosted in the country this September.

The committee was unveiled at an event graced by the ZVA’s leadership on Saturday.

The Association’s president Mxolisi Ndlovu said they were ready to play host to the region’s top tournament.

He said in announcing members of the LOC, it meant that they were now at a stage to start preparations.

The CAVB Zone VI Nations Championships will attract over 20 teams with each country expected to send two men and women’s teams.

Countries expected to participate at the competition are Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Former Highlanders and University of Zimbabwe utlity player Mbekezeli Mthunzi will chair the committee, with his two vice chairpersons being Portia Chiwetu and Muziwandile Gumbo.

“The LOC also has a secretariat that comprises Enias Kondo, Selome Mashasha and Eugenia Mandeya. In that list there is Vindicate Chindodo who has been tasked with heading the finance and administration and that portfolio also includes Joseph Dzimati.

“Other portfolios which will have volunteers include the technical sub-committee composed of Tawanda Sithole, Godknows Jembere and Spencer Chitate. Protocol has Mercy Chatyoka and Priestledge Nhamburo, with one member set to be added from the Government departments,” said Ndlovu.

Adding to the committee is security portfolio held by Abel Chimukoko and Hector Kabunu.

The media, marketing and fundraising department will be led by Stan Mushonga and he will be working with Lincoln Dokwani and Thomas Mangwiro.

“The committee that was announced and given a mandate to work with the association will among other things work towards the marketing of the event, mobilising resources, securing venues, providing technical services and other auxiliary services,” said Ndlovu.
