ZVASIYA FINDS NEW LEASE OF LIFE AT SCOTTLAND

Sports Reporter

ZIFA Northern Region Division One newboys Scottland FC’s dreams of a Cinderella tale are being powered by an uncomprosing defence in which their inspirational captain, Lincoln Zvasiya, has been outstanding.

Zvasiya, who once played for Kaizer Chiefs, is now the leader of the Scottland defence which has been one of the best performing defences in the second-tier league.

The Mabvuku side have conceded 11 goals in their 18 league matches so far this season.

It’s the same number of goals which leaders Black Rhinos, and third-placed side MWOS, have conceded in their campaign.

Second-placed Harare City, who lost to Scottland 0-1 two weeks ago, have conceded 10 goals.

However, the team with the best defence in the league are Golden Eagles, who have conceded just eight goals.

Scottland beat DZ Royal Stars 2-0 at Rufaro on Sunday but while their defence has been strong, they probably have concerns about their strikeforce.

The Mabvuku side have scored the least number of goals among the league’s leading sides.

They have scored 21 goals while Black Rhinos have scored 26 goals with City scoring 29 goals and MWOS also scoring 29 goals.

Maybe, that explains why Scottland have lined up the likes of King Nadolo and Evans Katema to give them the cutting edge in attack.

Their next game is against Black Rhinos on Friday in what could be a key moment in the race for the sole ticket into the Premiership.

Rhinos have the leading striker in the league with Everson Feremba on 11 goals.

He has scored one more goal than Norton Community’s Jeremiah Makangira, who has 10 goals.

Scottland do not have a player among the leading scorers as their leading scorer, Isaac Nyazenga, has scored just four goals so far this season.
