FORMER Young Warriors star Lincoln Zvasiya is rocking again in the Northern Region Soccer League.
The Scottland defender has been silently doing the job at the heart of Genesis Mangombe’s team and he has got his first reward after being voted the LM Auctioneers Player of the Month for September.
It is all smiles too for seasoned coach Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa.
The MWOS gaffer has for the fourth consecutive time been named Allied Insurance Coach of the Month and is expected to receive his accolade at his team’s next home game at Ngoni Stadium when they will receive Trojan Stars. PAM FC goalminder Admire Shinga bagged the LM Auctioneers Goalkeeper of the Month award.
But it is Zvasiya who seems to be maturing with age with his full force in display when Scottland beat Cranborne Bullets 3-1 at Rufaro yesterday to move to within four points of MWOS.
Scottland have also been eagerly awaiting the outcome of their abandoned game against Karoi United.
But the flamboyant out would have to wait a little longer after the NRSL announced that the hearing on the matter which had been set for yesterday had been deferred to Monday.
“The hearing of the abandoned match between Karoi United and Scottland was set down today and after noting some shortcomings was, accordingly postponed to 7th of October 2024. Further updates will be provided in due course,” read a statement from NRSL communication and media officer Yemurai Dyakonda.
However for former Kaizer Chiefs defender Zvasiya, life at Scottland appears like a re-birth.
Facing his former team club, Zvasiya was at his best starting play from the back and inspiring his team who scored through Leroy Mavhunga, Cleopas Dube and Jacob Nyakope.
His cheque for the September feat was presented at half-time yesterday.
Norton Community’s Jeremiah Makangira will also be heading to the bank after claiming the top scorer’s award.
Zvasiya, who is also comfortable playing in midfield said he was always working hard to try and get back to where he was some few years ago.
“I am very happy to have received this accolade. You know this is a prestigious award and I owe it to my teammates’ contribution,” said Zvasiya.
“I would like to salute club president Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya for coming up with this project.
“I don’t know where I would have been if this project didn’t give me another chance.
“I am grateful to him and everyone at the team.” Zvasiya said Scottland will fight for the title.
“The race is very tight. You look at the leaders MWOS, they are unrelenting and Black Rhinos are also very much in it. But as Scottland, we have to focus at ourselves and see where we would be at the end of the race.
“We need to keep our eyes on the ball, remain disciplined and I am confident everything will come up.”
MWOS can however restore their seven-point advantage at the top if they beat Banket at Kuwadzana this afternoon.
