ZVIMBA Rural District Council has begun upgrading information communication technology (ICT) systems in line with the Ease of Doing Business reforms being spearheaded by Government.
The move is aimed at improving business interface infrastructure to attract more local and international investors in the area.
In an interview on Friday, Zvimba RDC finance manager Mr Blessing Chafenuka said council was using outdated ways of analysing and storing data.
The move is expected to increase automation and enhance access to information to all the potential businesspeople and its clients.
“To fully implement the Easy of Doing Business reforms we decided to upgrade our ICTs services because ICT is now regarded as an organisational core competency that is necessary for all companies to survive and prosper in the rapidly changing and competitive business environments,” he said.
Mr Chafenuka said council had been behind in the use of technology, but had finally taken some steps to computerise its operations.
The local authority now has a computerised accounting system, wide area network (WAN), payment plan software and had also created a website for easy access to information, especially for those in the diaspora.
Council has also purchased equipment for road maintenance and rehabilitation.
“To improve our roads we have purchased a motorists grader worth $190 000, Iron Roller for road making worth $150 000, a tipper truck worth $121 000, and a backhoe loader,” said Mr Chafenuka.
Government is working to improve the Ease of Doing Business after a poor showing on the world rankings where it was ranked 161 out of 190 countries in 2016.
Its efforts, including investment in ICTs, road rehabilitation, reduced property registration period from 36 to 14 days and decentralisation of some services to local authorities, saw the country moving up the ranks marginally to 159 this year.
