Zanu-PF member Cde Caroline Tsitsi Mugabe has been appointed the Zvimba Senator following the death of Cde Virginia Muchenje, who passed away last year.
In a notice published in the Government Gazette yesterday, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Rita Makarau said her appointment was in terms of the Constitution.
“It is hereby notified, in terms of Section 39(7)(a) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), that Caroline Tsitsi Mugabe, a registered voter in Ward 19 of Zvimba Rural District Council, residing at Ngomahuru Farm, Banket, Zvimba in Mashonaland West Province, who was nominated by Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) party to fill the vacancy in the Senate that occurred following the death of Virginia Muchenje, has been appointed as a Senator with effect from the date of publication of this notice,” she said.
Cde Mugabe was elected the deputy secretary for External Relations in the Zanu-PF Women’s League in 2014.
Cde Muchenje, who died last year after battling cancer, was declared a liberation war heroine.
Zanu-PF secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo described her as a stalwart in Zvimba, who worked very closely with the late national heroine, Cde Sabina Mugabe, for the party’s programmes in the area and the province.
