THE Zvimba Rural District Council has embarked on a major facelift of Banket in a move that will see its roads rehabilitated.
Zvimba RDC chief executive officer Mr Peter Hlohla told a full council meeting in Murombedzi last week that the programme would include road resurfacing, grading and construction.
“We are resurfacing 1,35km of Tongogara Road in Banket and tendering and adjudication is in progress and works are expected to start anytime. The estimated cost of the project is $185 806,00,” said Mr Hlohla.
“At Banket’s Kuwadzana Phase 2, a total of 500m was opened and gravelled and construction of 400m concrete-lined drain is in progress, with excavation and casting of concrete base completed,” he said.
Mr Hlohla said council had also drilled a borehole at Kuwadzana Stadium and installation of pumps, tank and tank stand were already in place.
The stadium’s changing rooms were renovated, painted and flood lights repaired.
The area’s councillor Cde Loveness Kamunga weighed in saying that Banket residents were happy with developments at the town centre, although some people were angry when the old Osman Complex was destroyed.
They lost income.
Cllr Kamunga said council had constructed new roads around the new complex to compliment Sam Levy developments at the small farming community.
Banket is one of the oldest towns in Mashonaland West Province, but is the least developed.
