HARDLIFE Zvirekwi is one of the happiest men right now after helping Simba Bhora get promotion into the Premier Soccer League.
The Shamva-based side needed to win their penultimate match against Commando Bullets at Wadzanai on Saturday to be confirmed as the champions of the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League.
And they did just that before a packed Wadzanai with some of the local celebrities like Scott Sakupwanya gracing the match that ended 3-0 in favour of the home team.
And Zvirekwi, who was off-loaded by CAPS United in 2020 before Simba Bhora handed him the lifeline, said he was feeling incredible.
The former Green Machine captain will be back in the top-flight where he was the Soccer Star of the Year six years ago before a nasty injury claimed his left palm.
“The feeling is incredible. I am very excited and happy to have played my part in the team’s coronation,” said Zvirekwi.
He said Simba Bhora were largely helped by the experience in the squad.
The team boasts of a lot of several former PSL players including captain Brighton Tuwaya, Webster Tafa, Tafadzwa Jaravani and top-scorer Tafadzwa Jaravani among others.
“Obviously the team worked so hard to achieve this because there is stiff competition in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League.
“But we showed some character and the experience in the squad has been handy.
“We had to push more so we could achieve this,” Zvirekwi said.
The former Warriors utility player said the condition of the pitches in which Division One football is played made it hard for most of his teammates.
“It’s been very difficult playing in the First Division considering the conditions of the pitches we were playing on.
“We had been used to playing in good surfaces in the league you know and at our own Shamva home.
“That means we had to do more in order to adjust to the bumpy surfaces which we have played on in most of our away games.
“I think we did so well to adjust and here we are.”
