Zvishavane to buy earth moving equipment

Zvishavane Town Council will use its $1,6 million devolution grant to buy earth moving equipment to be used for infrastructure development, Town secretary, Mr Tinomuda Mukutu has said.

Government set aside $320 million towards the implementation of devolution in local authorities and provincial councils and Midlands will share $42 million. Mr Mukutu said the local authority will purchase bulldozers and tippers to facilitate its road rehabilitation projects.

“As Zvishavane council we have resolved to purchase earth moving machinery such as bulldozers, motorised graders, tippers, bowser and a caterpillar.

“Such equipment will come in handy in our road rehabilitation projects which is key to any development. We have been hiring such equipment from other companies, but purchasing our own equipment will help us even generate revenue as a local authority,” he said.

Recently the mining town completed the rehabilitation of 10 kilometres of roads in Mandava and Makwasha high density areas at a cost of $1,2 million.

Mr Mukutu said they were now implementing the second phase of the road rehabilitation programme where they want to rehabilitate another 10km stretch for $1,2 million.

He said after completing the second phase, the council will move to the next phases of the project.

“From the second phase we will move to the third and final phase for the year in terms of roads rehabilitation. We have since tarred some roads, which were previously gravel roads.”
