FORMER Zimbabwe sprinter Lloyd Zvasiya will conduct a strength and conditioning clinic in Zvishavane at the end of April.
The United Kingdom-based Zvasiya is now an international instructor and a certified strength and conditioning coach accredited by the United Kingdom Sports Association that specialises in sport nutrition and sport psychology.
He said the course is designed for all coaches in different sporting disciplines as well as gym instructors, athletes, medics and physical education tutors and teachers in general.
“Through my company Zvasi0705 Fitness First, I’ll be holding a strength and fitness clinic in Zvishavane from April 28 to 30.
“The course is designed for all coaches in the different sporting disciplines, be it football, athletics, rugby and netball, among others,” Zvasiya said.
“The clinic will share specific exercises, stretches and training guidelines that will help athletes continue to enjoy sport with fewer orthopaedic interruptions. It helps the young and old athletes to improve performance, increase athletic longevity and minimise the risk of acute and overuse injuries.”
He said the workshop would also provide science-based information to professionals and individuals to enable athletes learn how to improve their fitness and performance in sport.
The clinic will also help participants gain a better understanding of their respective sport and ability to perform skills at a higher level as well as have “knowledge of safe and effective exercise programming”.
Participation fees have been pegged at $150, with the full payment required seven days prior to the clinic.
The Midlands Athletics Board, through its secretary general William Chuwa, is co-ordinating logistics.
Zvasiya competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics where he reached the semi-finals and his personal best in the 400M event is 45.51 seconds, which he recorded in 2003.
