Zvishavane to spend $65k on waste management

The Zvishavane Town Council proposes to spend $65 000 on waste management in its 2018 draft budget. About $50 000 will be used to acquire a refuse truck and dumper, while $15 000 will be used to establish a dumpsite. Director of housing Mr Nhlanhla Ngwenya said last week the new refuse truck will complement the one they already have, including three tractors and some dumpers.

“We received a refuse truck from Mimosa through our good relations and we also have three tractors, which have dumpers that we use to carry refuse. We also need another truck to manage refuse collection,” said Mr Ngwenya.

“The other problem which I wanted to highlight is that the community does not have proper bins, some people use boxes, some sacks and all sorts. The residents have also not been complementing our efforts because at one time, we tried to give them plastic container bins on a cost-recovery basis, but you know people had converted those bins to something else rather than refuse.”
