1 000 attend Solo Festival

Munya Mataruse, Donald Kanyuchi, Jah Prayzah, Diana Samkange and many more.
The concept behind the solo festival is to help build confidence in artistes and enable them to perform successful solo shows and cultivate a deeper understanding that solo shows are as equally entertaining as groups or bands and artistes can still make a living from the performances.
The concept is the brainchild of Mtukudzi, who is also the founder of Pakare Paye Arts Centre.
In previous years artistes who had never performed solo such as Alick Macheso and Sulumani Chimbetu were featured and did fairly well.
Sulumani went on to stage a couple of solo shows of his own after his debut appearance at the fest. Mataruse and Kanyuchi have mastered the art and discipline of solo shows from the skills they have learnt from the fest.
The festival is held over two days to cater for a schools festival and the main festival. Culture Fund Trust Zimbabwe support the school festival while the Spar Guild of Grocers sponsor the main festival.
