between Harare North Housing Co-operative Union and the owner of the land.
In an interview on Tuesday chairman of the audit committee set up by Government Cde Eric Pfumvuti confirmed that the parties had resolved the dispute.
“We intervened and the parties have since resolved the dispute and the families will not be evicted.
“However, the criminal case against Mr Zvandasara will continue as there are allegations of misappropriation of subscriptions paid by members of co-operatives,” Cde Pfumvuti said.
The families were ordered off the stands last month by the High Court after the land was duly allocated to Cde Nyasha Chikwinya who is a Zanu-PF Central Committee member.
High Court judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu ruled that Mr Zvandasara, chairman of Harare North Housing Co-operative Union, was illegally occupying the 84-hectare land.
The audit committee was formed to look into alleged irregularities in the sale of residential stands at Caledonia, Snake Park, Hopely and Hatcliffe where there were complaints of double allocations and undeserving people benefiting.
Police, the Zimbabwe National Army and council officials make up the committee.
Cde Pfumvuti said auditing continues in Caledonia, Snake Park and Hopley where Government provided land for housing.
He said by next week the audit committee should have completed its work and submitted it to Government for action.
The fleecing of desperate home seekers by bogus land developers has become rampant.
Home seekers are encouraged to check with the local authority and the Department of Physical Planning under the Ministry of Local Government that the person selling stands actually has the right to do so before handing over any money.
Harare has more than 500 000 people on its housing waiting list and Government has allocated some co-operatives vast pieces of land to develop and ease accommodation challenges.
