THE Zimbabwe Foundation for Education with Production (ZIMFEP) is set to distribute 10 000 roadrunners to rural schools across the country to boost the schools’ incomes.

The project, which is a Presidential Initiative, seeks to help rural schools start income generating projects to reduce the cost of running the institutions.

In an interview last week on Friday after Chibuwe High School in Chipinge got the Secretary’s Merit Award, ZIMFEP director, Mr Gideon Chiukira said the distribution of roadrunners to rural schools will be a game-changer as it will enhance the school’s income generating projects as outlined by the Education 5.0 policy.

“As ZIMFEP, we are aiming to help schools to start income generating projects so that they will minimise the cost of running the institutions. We are targeting to distribute about 10 000 chickens to rural schools through the Presidential initiative. The programme is also extended to piggery where we will also hand over 1 000 pigs to schools.

“At the end, we want to see schools improving their infrastructure,” he said.

Mr Chiukira said they will assist the schools with technical support so that the project will achieve the desired results.

“We will train the schools through the Piggery Industry Board and have already have signed Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with them. The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development is coming in with experts so that the schools will come up with viable projects.

“In terms of marketing, schools will not struggle to secure markets as buyers have already been engaged,” said Mr Chiukira.

ZIMFEP donated pigs and roadrunners to Chibuwe High School.
