TEN musical groups will battle it out at this year’s Matabeleland South Chibuku Road to Fame provincial competition set for Saturday in Gwanda.

The event which is meant to identify and promote musical talent will be held at Colleen Bawn beerhall.

Vumbachikwe Sounds, Thokozani Band, Young Dynamics Brothers, Motor Super Sounds, Insiza Super Sounds, Gwanda SN Band, Tshitshi Super Sounds, Tsunami Sounds, Zimbabwe Express Band and Sitsho Band will compete for a ticket to represent their province at the national finals in Harare.

The finals will be held at Glamis Stadium on September 22.

Those who will come out tops will also dance away with $1,000, $500 and $300 respectively for the first three.

More entertainment will be provided by last year’s provincial winners, Zonda Mthakathi Band from Matobo District.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) Matabeleland South provincial arts manager Nokuthula Moyo said there was abundant musical talent which needed to be identified, tapped and promoted, especially in the rural areas.

“We’re expecting fireworks on Saturday as the groups will be showcasing their talents.

“We’re very delighted with this programme as it brings together new bands,” Moyo said.
