10 killed as water bowser crashes into Lagos market

LAGOS. –  Up to 10 people were killed yesterday after a water bowser drove into a market in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, said an eyewitness.
The accident happened at about 9:30am local time when a truck crashed into a market along Lasu-Isheri expressway in Igando area of the country’s commercial hub.
At least 10 people were killed on the spot, Eniola Oba, an eyewitness told Xinhua by telephone.
She said the driver of the truck was rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to Igando General Hospital after some angry mob had injured him.

She said both the remains of the dead and the injured had been ferried to the hospital.
According to initial investigations, brake failure might have caused the accident. The exact number of the injured is still unknown.

Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, poor road conditions and overloading. More than 1 000 are killed on the road each year in the country. – Xinhua.
