TEN people died in road traffic accidents during the Easter holidays, police said yesterday.
Police national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the holiday, which ended yesterday, was peaceful in terms of crime and accidents.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to announce that the 2016 Easter holiday had no major fatal road accidents on the highway. We recorded 181 accidents with 10 deaths compared to 218 accidents with 8 deaths in 2015,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
She said they impounded 298 cars.
“We issued 20528 tickets this year compared to 16027 last year.
“We would like to encourage all drivers to exercise caution and avoid speeding to safeguard people’s lives,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
She said drivers must abide by all road rules and regulations all the time.
