THE Zion Christian Church (ZCC) has started preparing for the annual Easter conference to be held at Mbungo in Bikita next week amid reports that more than 100 000 congregates are expected to attend.

ZCC spokesperson, who is also the church’s secretary for education, Mr Raymond Muringani, said all is set for the event which also attracts congregates from outside the country.

Mr Muringani said the church would host a children’s conference today and tomorrow where they will also have Palm Sunday.

“We have started preparing for one of the big events in the lives of Christians, the Easter conference. We expect in excess of 100 000 congregates from across the world to attend our pilgrimage,” said Mr Muringani.

He said congregates are expected to troop to Mbungo on Good Friday which is the day of the church council meeting. Mr Muringani said the following day Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi will preach but the main sermon will be on Easter Sunday, the last day.

“This year’s Easter conference is unique because as we are speaking Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi is expected back from China. The church has established a branch there and last week there was Holy Communion,” he said.

Mr Muringani said the Easter conference was the flagship ZCC gathering as congregates across the world get a rare opportunity to hear Bishop Dr Mutendi preaching.

“We invite even non-Christians and those from other denominations to come and get the ‘bread of life’. We will also be in a celebratory mood given the rains that God gave us this season as we were praying for this as a church,” he said.
