President Mnangagwa today capped 103 graduates at the Marondera University of Agricultural Science and Technology (MUAST)’s graduation ceremony in Marondera.
MUAST is the only fully fledged agriculture university in the country.
It was established in 2015 and its mandate is to train students in agricultural sciences and technology.
This is the university’s third graduation ceremony.
Graduates were drawn from the faculties of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, Applied Sciences and Technology, Plant and Animal Sciences and Technology, Earth and Environmental Sciences as well as the Teaching and Learning Institute.
Among the graduates were four who got doctorates, Masters degrees (28) and 71 undergraduate degrees.
The majority of the graduates (59 percent) were male, while 41 percent were female.
President Mnangagwa was accompanied by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Ambassador Fredrick Shava, Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Dr Apolonia Munzverengwi and other Government officials.
Six students received the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Awards.
In his remarks, MUAST Vice-Chancellor, Professor Justice Nyamangara commended President Mnangagwa for his dedication to the provision of quality education.
“The university is immensely grateful to you, Your Excellency, for these awards which demonstrate your passion for education and for rewarding students who excelled in their academic studies,” he said.
“This year’s graduation ceremony also saw the graduation of the first cohort of 34 students from Kushinga Phikelela Agricultural College, an associate college of MUAST.”
