A total 128 senior polices officers who were recently promoted to various ranks by President Emmerson Mnangagwa have been conferred with badges symbolising their new posts.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Thandabantu Godwin Matanga who presided over the ceremony at Morris Depot today called on the officer to uphold the oath of the organisation and to be professional.

He said, “This is the first exercise after we have successfully policed the harmonised elections that were conducted on the 30th of July 2018, which saw Zimbabweans from all walks of life voting peacefully across the country.

“Let me therefore remind the newly promoted senior officers that your elevation is not a passport to settling personal scores with those below you neither is it an opportunity to abuse authority and organisational resources.

“Instead, this is an opportunity for you to reciprocate the trust and confidence that the Government has reposed on you by upholding the virtues of professionalism, transparency and fairness,” he said.

Commissioner General Matanga also urged the senior officers to uphold the country’s constitution without fear or favour.

Among those who were promoted were Deputy Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba who was previously Senior Assistant Commissioner.

Assistant Commissioner Theresa Mthabeni was promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner while Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi is now Assistant Commissioner.

Others promoted included 71 Chief Inspectors who are now Superintendents.
