Tapfumaneyi was slapped with 20 years, but six were suspended on condition of good behaviour and will spend the remaining 14 years behind bars.
In passing sentence, Magistrate Shoniwa noted that Tambu was trusted by the girl.
In aggravation, the State submitted that he had committed a serious offence that deserved a custodial sentence. Prosecutor Valeri Chigwedere, proved that sometime in September last year, Tambu carried the girl while she was asleep and placed her on his bed. He put a knife on the girl’s neck before threatening her with death and raped her twice. The girl’s mother overheard neighbours talking about the matter and she questioned her daughter who in turn narrated her ordeal. A police report was made leading to Tapfumaneyi’s arrest.
