15-year-old girl commits suicide after argument with mother

A 15-year-old girl from Riverside in Bulawayo committed suicide on Monday evening after an argument with her mother over the selling of her laptop.

The now deceased Sharazel Angel Dawson committed suicide by poisoning.

Bulawayo Police Acting Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident which she said police are investigating as a case of suddenly death

She said circumstances are that, on 16 December 2024 at around 5:30pm, the now deceased and her mother had an argument after the mother decided to sell her Acer laptop. “The now deceased got upset and verbally threatened to kill herself. At around 6pm, a female juvenile aged 6 years, cousin to the deceased approached the deceased’s mother informing her that she saw the now deceased drinking some substance.

“They went to check inside the kitchen cabinet where pesticides are kept and she smelt a suspicious insecticide. She followed the deceased and discovered that she was already convulsing,” said A/Insp Msebele

A/Insp Msebele said the the mother took charcoal and instructed the now deceased to chew as first aid but to no avail.

“She then hired a taxi to ferry the now deceased to Mater Dei hospital where she was admitted upon arrival and later died. A police report was then made,” said A/Insp Msebele

She encouraged parents to be cautious when dealing with their children, so as to detect early and take action if they are any problems to avoid such incidences.

A/Insp Msebele said children of nowadays have a tendency of making a hasty decision when angry without bearing in mind the consequences of their actions.
