IN a vibrant display of civic duty and environmental stewardship, the Zanu-PF Youth League City Centre District on Friday joined forces with church leaders, residents and NetOne staff for a massive clean-up campaign in Bulawayo’s Central Business District (CBD).

The initiative, held in line with the national clean-up programme designated for the first Friday of every month, saw participants sweeping streets and clearing litter to promote a healthy and sustainable environment.

The campaign was led by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Bulawayo, Cde Judith Ncube, who was represented by the Director in her office, Mr Julius Gwatiwa.

In a speech read on her behalf, Minister Ncube urged households to reclaim their frontline role in protecting their surroundings through responsible waste management.

She extended warm praise to the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) for organising the initiative under the theme: “From Household to Community: Driving Zero Waste Together.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the exercise, Zanu-PF City Centre District Youth Chairman, Cde Joseph Majoni, commended the youths for their dedication to the Presidential Clean-Up Campaign.

“As the Youth League, we are fully behind the ideals of President Mnangagwa, who has always advocated for a clean environment and good health for all citizens,” said Cde Majoni.

“Such initiatives play a critical role in instilling discipline, responsibility, and community pride among our young people.

“By participating today, we are contributing to the broader vision of national development. We want our youths to understand that national cleanliness begins at their own doorsteps.”

Cde Majoni reaffirmed the Youth League’s commitment to mobilising more young people for national programmes.

“Our objective is to promote environmental cleanliness and youth participation. We are not just cleaning the streets; we are building a culture of responsibility that ensures the welfare of our communities is improved,” he added.

The event received significant corporate backing from telecommunications giant NetOne, which provided essential protective equipment, including gloves, coats, masks and refuse bins.

The exercise was well-attended by party leadership, including Youth Provincial Commissar Cde Raymond Masamba, District Chairman Cde Nicholas Bokosha, and Cde Dumisani Hillary Sibanda.

Also, in attendance was DCC1 member Cde Taurai Pangira, who is also the Secretary for Finance.

The success of the event was attributed to the facilitation of the Youth Provincial Vice-Chairman, Cde Mehluli Mlotshwa.
