The Judicial Service Commission has designated 16 magistrates to deal with politically motivated violence in case it occurs in the 16 by-elections to be held on June 10.
In a notice published in the Government Gazette yesterday, JSC chairperson Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku said the establishment of the designated courts was in terms of the Electoral Act.
“It is hereby notified that the Judicial Service Commission, in terms of Section 133 J(3) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), has designated the magistrates to try cases involving politically motivated violence and intimidation in each of the provinces as specified in the schedule,” read the notice.
In Harare, the three magistrates are Douglas Chikwekwe, Anita Tshuma and Brighton Pabwe. In Matabeleland North and Bulawayo provinces the following magistrates would handle cases: Enias Magate, Sibongile Msipa, Gladmore Mushowe and Victor Mpofu.
In Manicaland, Lucie-Anie Mungwari, Sekai Chiundura and Shingi Mutiro will preside over the cases, while in Mashonaland West the magistrates are Ignatious Mugova, Ngoni Nduna and Felix Mawadze.
In the Midlands province, Pathekile Msipa, Tendai Madanhire and Musaiona Shortgame will preside over the cases.
The by-elections will be held in Highfield West, Glen View South, Dzivaresekwa, Kambuzuma, Harare East, Kuwadzana, Hurungwe West, Headlands, Mbizo, Dangamvura-Chikanga, Lobengula, Makokoba, Luveve, Pumula, Mpopoma-Pelandaba and Tsholotsho North.
